EBRC Jaguar: France’s networked 6×6 reconnaissance vehicle with a 40 mm CTAS cannon

EBRC Jaguar is France’s new armed reconnaissance vehicle and a central part of SCORPION. It replaces AMX-10RC, ERC-90 and HOT carriers. The 25-tonne vehicle combines a 40 mm CTAS cannon, MMP missiles and extensive sensing. Its first operational deployment abroad followed in Estonia in 2024.

Three layers of firepower

The 40 mm telescoped-ammunition cannon engages vehicles and positions, MMP/Akeron MP extends effect against heavy targets, and a remote 7.62 mm weapon covers close threats. Ammunition and sensing define results. Despite its armament, a reconnaissance vehicle is not a main battle tank.

Sensor and network

Day and thermal optics, laser warning, acoustic shot detection and shared information are intended to give the three-person crew an information advantage. SCORPION links Jaguar with Griffon, infantry and command. Data quality and usability under stress matter more than sensor count.

Mobility and protection

France lists 500 hp, up to 80 km/h and roughly 800 km range. The 6×6 layout supports road movement and strategic deployment, while modular protection addresses mines and fire. Avoidance remains more important than armour competition against tank guns and modern anti-tank missiles.

Editorial assessment

Jaguar is strongest as a sensing and striking node in a network. Its weapons provide self-protection and selective engagement, but the operational gain is rapid situational awareness. Deployment in Estonia demonstrates unit maturity; maintainability, training and network resilience will determine sustained value.
